We have always had the strong sense that the best care for cancer patients – many of whom are undergoing aggressive treatments and are receiving palliative care and many of whom are anxious or agitated or distressed – is one where professionals from as many disciplines as possible come together to give the patients access to the best medical treatments available and a wide range of complementary therapies to choose from to support them on their journey. The complementary therapies in these cases are not given to cure the patient, but as a gentle support while they are undergoing conventional treatments.
Reiki is one of those complementary therapies. Over the years, we have had the privilege to give Reiki treatments to many cancer patients. Many of these patients were undergoing conventional treatment at the time and were using Reiki as a gentle support. Some patients were nearing the end of their lives and in receipt of palliative care at the time of their Reiki treatment.
All cancer patients have found Reiki to be a wonderful support on their journey. Everyone’s experience of Reiki is slightly different, but the consensus is that it is very relaxing, calming and soothing.
Many patients say that Reiki reduces tension and anxiety.
Many patients say that Reiki reduces the side-effects of conventional treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation and the side-effects of strong medication.
Many patients say Reiki reduces pain.
Many patients say that Reiki increases their energy-levels.
Some patients say that Reiki improves their sleep-pattern.
? In most cases Reiki helps patients to have a more positive attitude towards life in general and improves the response to their often aggressive treatments.
If you are living with a cancer diagnosis, or if you know someone who does, please get in touch and we will be very happy to support you on your journey. Reiki does not cure cancer, but it can make it easier to live with it.
